Animal shelters need excellent plotting in order to be successful. I recently toured a large facility in a neighboring town and learned a few characteristics which would be valuable for any group plotting a new facility to know.

June is national Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. Shelters are flooded with cats from May to November in Southwest Florida, the time of year when most female cats are giving birth to multiple litters. Cat intake at Lee County Domestic Animal Services increases by 34% during kitten season.

Mary Crevier lends a hand at shelter
CHARLESTOWN – Mary Crevier of Westerly likes cats, so she used to head over to the Charlestown Animal Shelter with an occasional bag of food or litter. One day she walked in to find animal control officer Kathy McA’Nulty, in knee-high boots, cleaning dog cages. Another person was fixing nice small beds up for the cats.
